Here is some helpful information to keep in mind when shopping for roses.
Hybrid Teas are the most popular rose. They can grow to heights of 6 feet, and produce long lasting blooms that are suitable for cutting. In the garden they can stand alone or they can be the featured plant in a mixed bed of roses.
Floribundas are the second largest class of roses today. These roses produce heavy clusters of flowers that can be great for putting together bouquets, and they bloom continuously from June until the first frost. Generally Floribundas are used for the border of the flower bed since they grow between 2-4 feet tall.
What do you get when you cross a Hybrid Tea Rose and a Floribunda Rose? A Grandiflora Rose! The Grandiflora produces clusters of medium-sized roses that are shaped like Hybrid Tea flowers. They can grow as tall as a Hybrid Tea but with shorter stems. Grandifloras make great cuttings.

Climbing Roses can reach as high as 12 feet when they can grow on strong sturdy structures such as walls, trellises, and fences. The blooms on these roses are typically smaller than the Hybrid Teas. Lots of fertilizer and room to grow will ensure these roses grow vigorously for years.

Miniature Roses are most used at the base of large plants, in narrow borders or in rock gardens. Some people prefer to leave them in their container in order to enjoy them inside, which is fine as long as the plant gets a warm sunny spot by the window. They only grow between 2-3 feet and are completely covered with perfect rose blooms.

Shrub Roses produce blooms that are full of color and they can be single, semi-double or double. Shrubs can grow anywhere from 1 foot to 12 feet. The larger varieties of Shrub Roses can be used as a perennial border or for screening unwanted views.

Tree Roses are created when a rose is grafted onto a strong straight cane. Standard Tree Roses which are 3 feet tall are great beside entry points, or lining a walk way. Patio and Miniature Tree Roses grow to 2 feet and 18 inches respectively; they look very nice on porches and in the front of a mixed flower bed.

Planting and Caring for Roses
Here are a couple of tips to remember when planting a rose.

Roses like at least 4-6 hours of sun each day.
Roses are heavy feeders and should be fed at least once a month using either a granular feed or water soluable.
